Egyptian Investment and Foreign Trade Minister, Dr. Mohamed Farid, recently met with a delegation from S&P Global Ratings, led by Ravi Bhatia, to review the country's economic updates and investment plans. The meeting focused on discussing the state's efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the business environment and implement the economic reform program. Dr. Farid emphasized that the government is implementing a comprehensive package of structural and institutional reforms to facilitate business practices and promote economic competitiveness.
The Egyptian government has launched the "Economic Entities Platform" in coordination with nearly 90 government entities and institutions. This digital platform provides a unified window for company establishment, licensing, and approvals, aiming to reduce bureaucratic procedures and enhance efficiency. Dr. Farid highlighted that this platform allows investors to track various procedures, approvals, and licenses within a more transparent and integrated "investor journey."
The government plans to expand the establishment of investment zones across provinces, with a goal of launching 8-9 new zones over the next 2-3 years. This initiative aims to attract investments, create job opportunities near population centers, and promote women's participation in the labor market. Dr. Farid also mentioned that the government is adopting a more effective approach to attracting foreign direct investment through sectoral targeting and direct communication with companies.
The Ministry of Investment is working with various government agencies to prepare a package of ready and executable investment opportunities in sectors such as health, tourism, housing, and energy. These opportunities reflect the actual needs of the Egyptian market. Dr. Farid emphasized the importance of developing the economic data collection system and enhancing disclosure and governance. The ministry is working to electronically link the disclosure and foreign direct investment system with relevant agencies.
Dr. Farid reviewed the role of the Egypt Sovereign Fund in supporting economic development, attracting investments, and maximizing returns from state-owned assets. The fund contributes to reducing investment risks in strategic sectors through specialized sub-funds. He mentioned the launch of the Egyptian Industrial Investment Fund with a licensed capital of 10 billion EGP and a paid capital of 500 million EGP.
Regarding regional and international economic developments, Dr. Farid stated that the government has dealt with variables and challenges quickly and efficiently through balanced financial and monetary policies. These policies aim to maintain macroeconomic stability and enhance investor confidence. He noted growing interest from international investors in various productive and service sectors, driven by Egypt's market potential, strategic location, and infrastructure development.
Ravi Bhatia from S&P Global Ratings praised Egypt's significant economic and investment potential, citing its market size, strategic location, and infrastructure development. He emphasized the importance of continued institutional and digital reform, particularly in simplifying procedures and improving transparency and data availability. Bhatia expressed interest in monitoring Egypt's economic developments and measures to improve the investment climate and enhance economic performance.
