Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, health advisor to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, has stated that the significant support provided by the President has contributed to the remarkable development in Egypt's healthcare sector. He highlighted the importance of presidential health initiatives in early disease detection and treatment. These initiatives have played a crucial role in reducing complications and protecting citizens' health. Tag El-Din emphasized that early detection of tumors, particularly in women, greatly increases the chances of recovery.
According to Tag El-Din, nearly two million citizens have benefited from the initiative to eliminate surgical operation waiting lists, with a total cost of around three billion pounds. This initiative involved collaboration with various state entities, prioritizing operations related to heart, brain, and artery diseases. The President is closely monitoring the implementation of medical initiatives, which is essential for applying comprehensive health insurance to all citizens. The first phase of the comprehensive health insurance system has concluded, and the second phase is underway.
Tag El-Din stressed that comprehensive health insurance relies on having a health file for each family member, supporting prevention, early detection, and treatment. All medical institutions with significant capabilities participate in providing services within the system after meeting accreditation and regulatory standards. He also mentioned that Egypt has a well-established industrial and historical base in the pharmaceutical sector, with over 180 companies producing drugs. The local production covers more than 94% of market needs.
The health advisor highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare, which begins before a child's birth through maternal and fetal care. He pointed to the success of national vaccination programs in eliminating polio and controlling various diseases. Egypt has also achieved significant progress in combating hepatitis C through a national campaign and providing treatment. Tag El-Din emphasized that Egypt has made a national achievement in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, with support from the political leadership.
In the pharmaceutical sector, Tag El-Din mentioned that Egypt has a long history dating back to 1936, with continuous growth in production capacity. He emphasized the strategic importance of localizing biological drugs and cancer treatments, ensuring the availability of advanced treatments for Egyptian citizens at reasonable prices. The Egyptian pharmaceutical industry is subject to monitoring by the Egyptian Drug Authority at all stages of production. Drugs and vaccines are only approved after rigorous regulatory and laboratory analysis.
Tag El-Din pointed out that modern technology and artificial intelligence have contributed to reducing time and cost in the healthcare sector. However, he emphasized that technology will not replace human elements. He also mentioned the existence of large medical and pharmaceutical cities that represent fundamental pillars of Egypt's healthcare system and pharmaceutical industry. According to official indicators, the general health condition of Egyptian citizens has stabilized and improved qualitatively, supported by preventive care initiatives.
