Egyptian Health Minister Khalid Abdel Ghaffar recently held a meeting with a delegation of officials from Al-Radwan company, the accredited partner of Samsung in Egypt. The discussion centered around exploring frameworks for collaborative efforts to localize and assemble medical ultrasound devices, also known as sonars, and examining opportunities for exporting these devices to African and Arab markets.
According to Dr. Hussam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, the meeting reviewed the current state of cooperation and its practical outcomes. The discussions also involved examining a proposed technical and industrial offer for localizing the production of medical devices. This offer includes studying the assembly and manufacturing of sonars locally, focusing on priority devices for women's health services and general imaging.
The meeting also covered methods for transferring technology and industrial expertise, applying the highest standards of quality control, and establishing a specialized center for after-sales services, maintenance, technical support, and providing spare parts. These efforts aim to qualify Egyptian engineering and technical personnel and explore opportunities for digital integration to enhance Egypt's position as a regional manufacturing and export hub.
Dr. Hussam Abdel Ghaffar highlighted that the previous operational experience between the two parties serves as a practical basis for evaluating the technical performance of the devices. This experience will inform future needs and the expansion of local manufacturing, noting that both parties agreed on a sequential executive plan. This plan begins with a survey of the current and future needs for sonars and x-ray devices, paving the way for a pilot phase to assemble or manufacture a priority model.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed Fawzi, the Minister's advisor for radiology, Dr. Hala Mustafa, director of the radiology department at the ministry, and from the company, Abdel Fattah Hamad Abdel Naim, the managing director and CEO, and Abdel Rahman Hamad Abdel Naim, the CEO of operations. The discussions reflect the ongoing efforts to enhance the local production of medical devices and expand their export.
Egypt has been actively working on strengthening its healthcare sector through various partnerships and initiatives. Recently, the country has engaged with several international companies to advance its medical capabilities. These collaborations aim to improve healthcare services, increase the production of essential medical devices, and enhance the country's position in the global healthcare market.
The Egyptian government's efforts to localize the production of medical devices, such as ultrasound machines, are part of a broader strategy to boost the country's industrial sector and increase exports. By partnering with international companies like Samsung, Egypt aims to leverage foreign expertise and technology to develop its local manufacturing capabilities.
