Egyptian Health Minister Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar emphasized his ministry's commitment to maintaining and developing cooperation with Lebanon. He highlighted the pivotal role of the Egyptian Embassy in Beirut in supporting communication between relevant parties and monitoring priority health issues. This was during a meeting with Lebanese Ambassador Tameem Khalaf to discuss ways to enhance healthcare cooperation and review joint cooperation files.
The meeting covered the status of a draft memorandum of understanding between Egypt's Ministry of Health and its Lebanese counterpart. The draft has been prepared, and legal opinions and technical sector views have been obtained, with necessary observations incorporated. Egypt is currently working on completing approvals and procedures, paving the way for coordination with Lebanon and the embassy to finalize the agreement and take steps towards signing.
The proposed memorandum includes cooperation in primary and comprehensive healthcare, crisis and emergency management, training and capacity building for medical, nursing, and administrative staff, prevention of infectious and non-communicable diseases, and digital health transformation and e-health applications. This aims to improve healthcare services and outcomes in both countries.
Egypt continues to support Lebanon's healthcare sector, including a shipment of medicines and medical supplies weighing around 10 tons in August.
