On October 5, 2026, Dr. Hussam El-Din Fouzi, Governor of Damietta, conducted an inspection tour at the Damietta Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Hospital. The hospital, located in the new city of Damietta, spans 17,000 square meters and is affiliated with the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment under the Ministry of Health and Population. He was accompanied by Dr. Mohamed Abdel Khalek, Director of the Damietta Health Directorate, and Dr. Shimaa El-Bashbishi, Hospital Director.

During the tour, the Governor reviewed the various medical sections and specialties within the current hospital building. These include outpatient clinics for addiction treatment, mental health, and smoking cessation, as well as a 24-hour emergency and reception department, a medical laboratory, a drug analysis laboratory, and a pharmacy. Additionally, he visited a harm reduction unit for addiction treatment with two beds and an addiction treatment unit with sections for detoxification and rehabilitation.

The Governor also inspected a children's clinic that provides services for children, adolescents, epilepsy, and women's health. He listened to a detailed explanation of the working mechanisms in different departments, the provided health services, and the number of cases the hospital receives daily. The Governor was briefed on the ongoing work to complete the preparation of nutritional and viral clinics, which are expected to be operational soon.

Dr. Fouzi praised the efforts exerted by the medical and administrative teams and extended his thanks to all employees for their role in elevating the level of medical service. The Governor emphasized the importance of the hospital in providing specialized services to the residents of Damietta and neighboring governorates.

As part of his tour, the Governor inspected the main building, which is currently under completion. He met with representatives from the Arab Contractors Company, the executing entity of the project, to discuss obstacles hindering the completion of the work. The Governor directed the need to overcome these obstacles and proceed according to a clear timeline, ensuring the completion of the remaining work.

The Governor stressed the importance of the hospital and the necessity of coordinating with all concerned parties to put it into service as soon as possible. The new hospital aims to improve mental health and addiction treatment services in the region.
