Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty joined a roundtable discussion with the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) on September 21, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen economic ties between Egypt and the United States.

During the meeting, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the US, and the need to translate the momentum in political and institutional relations into increased economic cooperation and direct investments. He highlighted the importance of continuing to benefit from the institutional frameworks governing economic cooperation, including the Framework Agreement for Trade and Investment and the Joint Economic Committee.

Abdelatty reviewed the measures taken by the Egyptian government to facilitate and encourage trade and investment cooperation with the US, citing Egypt's continued implementation of its economic reform program and restructuring of the state's role in the economy, with a focus on increasing the private sector's contribution. He also highlighted Egypt's promising investment opportunities and competitive advantages, given its strategic location and access to regional and international markets.

The minister invited the American business community and companies to expand their investments in the Egyptian market and take advantage of available opportunities in priority sectors, which would deepen economic and trade cooperation and achieve mutual benefits for both countries. The discussion also touched on regional issues, with Abdelatty warning of the repercussions of these developments on the international economic situation, supply chains, energy and commodity markets.

Abdelatty renewed Egypt's call for conflicts to be resolved through political solutions, which would put an end to the cycle of confrontations and crises and achieve the interests of all parties. He also emphasized Egypt's firm stance on the Palestinian issue, and the need to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to stop settlement activities and end the occupation.

The roundtable discussion provided a platform for the Egyptian foreign minister to engage with American business leaders and discuss ways to strengthen economic ties between the two countries. The meeting also highlighted Egypt's commitment to creating a favorable business environment and encouraging investment.

Key aspects of the discussion included the importance of economic cooperation, regional issues, and Egypt's stance on the Palestinian issue. The meeting demonstrated Egypt's efforts to enhance its economic relations with the US and create new opportunities for investment and trade.
