Egyptian Communications and Information Technology Minister Raft Hendi inaugurated the 9th edition of the DevOpsDays Cairo 2026 conference. The event is organized by the Software Engineering Capability Center (SECC) under the Egyptian Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA). This year's theme is "Sustainable DevOps Methodologies in the Agent AI Era." The conference brings together local and international experts in software engineering, IT infrastructure development, AI, and cybersecurity.
DevOpsDays is a global series of technical conferences held in over 60 cities worldwide. The conferences focus on software development, IT infrastructure operations, and integration. Cairo hosted the first DevOpsDays event in the Arab region in 2018 and has since become the only Arab city to host the conference. The event has established itself as a platform for the DevOps community, experts, and specialists to exchange knowledge and explore the latest technical trends.
This year's conference discusses the impact of agent AI technologies on the software development lifecycle and operations. It also reviews practices that support building more efficient, reliable, and sustainable technological environments. These efforts aim to enhance the readiness of local companies and Egyptian cadres to meet the changing industry requirements and deal with advanced technologies.
Minister Raft Hendi emphasized that DevOps practices have significantly transformed with the emergence of DevOps culture, continuous delivery, cloud computing, and automation. He noted that the world is witnessing a deeper transition towards autonomous systems through AI, which raises questions about accountability, oversight, and the selection of the most suitable models.
Hendi highlighted Egypt's rapid progress in digital transformation, expanding digital government services for millions of citizens. He stated that DevOps represents a fundamental pillar in building reliable and scalable digital services. The Ministry recently launched "Krank," an Egyptian large language model capable of understanding Arabic.
The conference features 66 speakers, including 13 international speakers from nine countries. The event includes four main tracks and three dialogue sessions discussing the future of DevOps from various perspectives. Additionally, three specialized workshops will address practical applications in DevOps and AI.
The conference concludes with the announcement of the winning teams in the "Employing DevOps and AI to Accelerate Automation and Drive Innovation" competition. A total of 142 teams participated, with 20 teams advancing to the final stage. A committee of 12 judges evaluated the finalists, consisting of six Egyptian and six international judges.
