Egyptian authorities have seized 2.25 tons of unidentified meat products from a facility in Giza that processes and packages meat products, including kofta, sausage, and burgers. The seizure was made during a regulatory campaign conducted by the Giza Supply Ministry in collaboration with the Urban Supply Management and Veterinary Medicine departments. The campaign aimed to tighten oversight on markets and food establishments.
The campaign was led by Mustafa Ahmed, Deputy Director of the Giza Supply Ministry, in conjunction with Ahmed Mar'i and in partnership with the Urban Supply Management and Veterinary Medicine departments. Inspectors reviewed licenses, verified the source of products in circulation, and checked their suitability for human consumption. They also examined production and expiration dates on packaging and storage methods.
Inspectors found large quantities of imported meat and fats of unknown origin without documentation or data proving their legitimate circulation. The products were confiscated, and samples were taken by the Veterinary Medicine department for examination. Legal measures were taken against violators. The campaign was conducted based on directives from Dr. Sharif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, Governor of Giza.
In a separate regulatory campaign, the Giza Supply Ministry continued to intensify oversight on subsidized bakeries in collaboration with supply management departments in Awseem, Al-Haram, and Al-Umraniyah. Inspectors visited several bakeries to ensure compliance with ministerial decisions and directives. The campaign resulted in 48 violations by subsidized bakeries, including producing bread that was short in weight.
The violations also included not having a bakery machine, disposing of flour, closing without permission, selling bread at the free market price, producing and selling bread that did not match the license, recording fake sales, and not having a data list. These actions aim to ensure bakeries adhere to regulations and provide quality products to consumers.
Furthermore, the campaign led to the seizure of a truck loaded with 70 sacks of subsidized flour, totaling 3.5 tons, as it attempted to smuggle the goods outside the subsidized system designated for subsidized bakeries and sell them on the black market. The seized quantity was confiscated, and legal measures were taken against violators.
The Giza Supply Ministry's efforts aim to intensify oversight on bakeries and markets and combat attempts to smuggle subsidized goods. The actions ensure that subsidies reach their intended recipients and that consumers have access to quality products.
