Egyptian health authorities have intensified their crackdown on unlicensed addiction treatment centers in Alexandria. According to Dr. Osama Ahmed Blibl, Deputy Minister of Health for Alexandria, 60 unlicensed centers were shut down over the past six months. The centers were found to be operating without the necessary licenses and were subsequently closed down. The crackdown was carried out by the Free Treatment Administration at the Alexandria Health Directorate, which is responsible for monitoring private medical facilities. Rashaa Seif, Director of the Free Treatment Administration, revealed that 25 treatment centers were inspected, and their licenses were verified. However, one center was found to be operating without a license, and several other irregularities were uncovered. These included non-medical personnel conducting medical examinations and diagnosing patients, as well as unlicensed doctors prescribing medication.
The unlicensed center, located in the western part of the city, was found to be providing psychiatric and addiction treatment services without the necessary permits. Authorities also discovered that the center was referring patients to other unlicensed facilities. Furthermore, a general practitioner was found to be practicing outside their authorized scope.
The Alexandria Health Directorate took swift action against the unlicensed center, filing charges against the individuals involved. The charges included impersonating doctors, practicing medicine without a license, and operating an unlicensed medical facility. The center was subsequently shut down.
