Egyptian Transport Minister, Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, recently visited Germany to participate in the Inno Trans exhibition and conference in Berlin. During his visit, he met with Saudi Transport Minister, Engineer Saleh Al-Jasser, to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two countries in transportation, logistics, and maritime connectivity. The meeting aimed to support trade and maximize the benefits of Egypt's and Saudi Arabia's strategic locations.
Minister El-Wazir congratulated his Saudi counterpart on Saudi National Day, conveying greetings from Egyptian Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the Saudi people. He emphasized the deep-rooted relations between the two nations, which go beyond diplomatic and economic ties, and are based on a long history and shared destiny.
Minister Al-Jasser highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, particularly in the transportation sector, which is witnessing significant development in both countries. The two ministers discussed the importance of working together to enhance integration between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in international corridors and connecting Saudi and Egyptian ports to support trade between the two countries and the Gulf region.
The ministers emphasized the significance of the Southern Arab Trade Corridor, which connects Europe and the Gulf region through Egypt, utilizing the Egyptian-Italian Ro-Ro line between Damietta and Trieste ports, and integrated logistics corridors to the port of Safaga and then to the port of NEOM in Saudi Arabia. This corridor aims to support trade and economic growth between the two nations.
Minister El-Wazir mentioned that Egypt's Transport Ministry is planning to establish eight integrated logistics corridors to connect production areas to seaports, using a network of railways and main roads, passing through dry ports and logistics zones. This plan aims to turn Egypt into a regional hub for transportation, logistics, and transit trade.
The two ministers agreed that the next phase requires continued cooperation and opening up new avenues for partnership in economic, investment, and trade fields. They emphasized the importance of maximizing the use of available resources and capabilities to increase cooperation and joint projects, enhancing the interests of both nations.
The ministers also highlighted the role of the Egyptian-Saudi Higher Coordination Council in promoting cooperation and pushing bilateral relations to new levels. The council serves as a key framework for coordinating efforts and promoting cooperation between the two countries.
