Egypt is preparing to host the inaugural Alamein Africa Forum in New Alamein from October 2-4, with 1,500 participants expected to attend. The forum will feature a summit of the founding member states of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and the African Union's eighth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting. The event aims to bring together governments, businesses, investors, and financial institutions to support partnerships and investment across the continent.

The programme will include more than 20 heads of state and government or their representatives, alongside senior officials, business leaders, investors, financial institutions, and representatives of the public and private sectors. The inaugural edition will focus on mobilizing investment, financing, and partnerships to translate Africa’s development priorities into projects and tangible results. Participants will include senior leaders from international and regional financial institutions and representatives of sectors including infrastructure, trade, critical minerals, digital innovation, health, and emerging industries.

The forum seeks to bring together governments, businesses, investors, and financial institutions to support partnerships and investment across the continent. An accompanying exhibition will present investment opportunities, major projects, African companies, and productive sectors. It will also offer space for direct contact among governments, business communities, investors, and financing institutions. This will provide a platform for cross-border economic partnerships, as described by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.

The AUDA-NEPAD founding member states' summit is scheduled for October 3, while the African Union's eighth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting will take place on October 4. The three events will be held in succession in the Mediterranean city. Egypt is organizing the forum in cooperation with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and AUDA-NEPAD, with Afreximbank playing a central role in supporting African trade, investment, and economic integration.

Egypt has raised preparations for the gathering in talks with Tanzania and delivered a presidential invitation to Chad. The AUDA-NEPAD summit follows discussions earlier this year on financing projects under the African Union’s Agenda 2063 development plan. At the February AU summit, Egypt highlighted the Team Africa financing initiative, which aims to mobilize up to $500 billion for development projects across the continent.

The Alamein Africa Forum is established as a permanent African Business Forum to be held biennially in Egypt. The forum will provide a platform for African countries to discuss investment opportunities and partnerships. Egypt's efforts to host the forum demonstrate its commitment to promoting economic integration and cooperation across the continent.

The forum's focus on mobilizing investment, financing, and partnerships aligns with Egypt's goals to attract more Gulf and private investment. The country has been working to turn reforms into projects, and the forum is expected to provide a boost to these efforts. With 1,500 participants expected to attend, the forum is set to be a significant event in the African business calendar.
