The abduction incident occurred on May 15, 2026, when bandits attacked three schools in the local government, resulting in the kidnapping of 39 pupils and seven teachers. The victims were held captive for 56 days within the Old Oyo National Park before being freed on July 10, 2026. Unfortunately, two teachers, Michael Oyedokun and Adesiyan Adegboye, lost their lives during the ordeal.
The Judicial Commission of Inquiry was inaugurated on July 31, 2026, with a mandate to uncover the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
