The Egyptian Ministry of Transport has announced a new direct bus service for commuters using the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. As of Thursday, October 8, 2026, passengers can travel directly from the Alexandria Agricultural station to the Sun Capital station and vice versa. This move aims to provide a more convenient and regular service to users of the BRT system.

The decision to introduce the direct service is part of efforts to improve the efficiency of the BRT system, which has been operational in phases. The second phase of the BRT system, which includes 14 new stations, began operations recently. These stations are located along the Cairo ring road and include stops such as Ain El Sokhna, Maadi, and El Meryoteya.

With the introduction of the direct service, the waiting time for passengers has been reduced to just 10 minutes. Additionally, the wait at the Golf station has been eliminated to facilitate smoother travel for commuters who use the BRT system regularly. The Alexandria Agricultural station was one of the first stations in the first phase, while the Sun Capital station is one of the last stations in the second phase.

The second phase of the BRT system includes a total of 14 new stations. These stations are: Ain El Sokhna, Maadi, El Mokatm, Elgazaer, El Imamien, El Zahraa, El Bahar El Aazam, Zahraa Maadi, El Autostrada, El Mansourya, El Omrania, El Talbeya, and El Meryoteya. The inclusion of these new stations has increased the total number of BRT stations on the ring road to 30.

The fares for the BRT system vary depending on the number of stations traveled. The prices range from 5 Egyptian pounds for four stations to 35 pounds for the entire route. Specifically, the fares are as follows: 4 stations for 5 pounds, 10 stations for 10 pounds, 14 stations for 15 pounds, 18 stations for 20 pounds, 26 stations for 30 pounds, and 30 stations for 35 pounds.

The introduction of the direct service and the reduction of waiting times are expected to increase the use of the BRT system. The system was designed to provide an efficient and reliable public transportation option for residents of Cairo. By continually improving and expanding the service, the Ministry of Transport aims to encourage more people to use the BRT system.

The Egyptian government has been investing in public transportation infrastructure to improve services and reduce congestion in major cities. The BRT system is part of these efforts, providing a fast and efficient way for people to travel across the city. With the new direct service, commuters can now travel more easily and conveniently.
