Egyptian Suez Canal Authority Chairman, General Osama Rabie, met with Sri Lankan Ambassador to Cairo, Sisira Senavirathna, to explore avenues for cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The meeting took place at the Authority's headquarters in Ismailia, Egypt. General Rabie expressed his appreciation for the growing relations between Egypt and Sri Lanka, highlighting the potential for increased cooperation in the maritime industry, logistics, and training.

General Rabie noted that the Suez Canal has experienced an unprecedented surge in activity as part of a comprehensive strategy to diversify revenue streams and enhance the canal's competitiveness. This strategy involves localizing maritime industries, developing and updating the maritime and logistics services system. The Chairman emphasized the Authority's efforts to maintain communication with all stakeholders in the maritime community to mitigate the impact of geopolitical challenges on global trade passing through the canal.

The Suez Canal Authority is keen to cooperate with Sri Lankan companies and institutions in various areas, including shipbuilding, port operations, manufacturing different types of marine units, fishing, and logistics services. The Authority's Maritime Training and Simulation Academy is also prepared to offer advisory services and training. General Rabie highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing common challenges and promoting sustainable global supply chains.

Ambassador Senavirathna praised Egypt's efforts in efficiently managing the Suez Canal, a critical global waterway, despite surrounding challenges. He expressed Sri Lanka's interest in exploring new avenues for cooperation and exchanging expertise in the maritime industry. The Ambassador also noted that Egypt has become an attractive destination for investment due to its strategic location and infrastructure development.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador extended an invitation to the Suez Canal Authority and its affiliated companies to participate in the Expo Sri Lanka 2027 for international trade, commerce, and industry. This event presents an opportunity for partnerships and knowledge sharing between the two nations. General Rabie accepted the invitation, and the two parties discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

During the meeting, General Rabie and Ambassador Senavirathna reviewed the existing relations between Egypt and Sri Lanka, emphasizing the importance of the maritime industry in promoting economic cooperation. The two officials also explored potential investment opportunities in the Suez Canal region, which offers a unique blend of strategic location and developed infrastructure.

The meeting concluded with the exchange of gifts, as General Rabie presented the Suez Canal Authority's shield to Ambassador Senavirathna. The Sri Lankan Ambassador was then invited to take a boat tour of the New Suez Canal and visit the Suez Canal Museum to witness the project's progress firsthand.
