The upgrade project is part of the authority's second phase of development, which will be implemented over the next four years. Egypt's railway network currently stretches around 9570 kilometers, serving 23 governorates and transporting nearly 420 million passengers annually. The network consists of 3040 passenger cars, including 850 air-conditioned ones, 8553 freight cars, and around 793 locomotives.
The railway authority has announced the train schedules for the Cairo-Alexandria route. Several trains are available, including the air-conditioned train number 911, which departs from Cairo's railway station at 10:00 am. Another train, number 1211, which is a Tahya Misr train, leaves Cairo at 10:10 am. Additionally, train number 917, a VIP train, starts from Cairo at 3:00 pm.
More train schedules have been announced for the Cairo-Alexandria route. Train number 57, a third-class air-conditioned train, departs from Tanta at 10:25 am and arrives in Alexandria at 12:30 pm. Train number 1089, a sleeper air-conditioned train, operates on Mondays and Fridays, leaving Cairo at 8:40 am and arriving in Alexandria at 11:20 am.
Return train schedules from Alexandria to Cairo have also been announced. Train number 18, a Russian train, departs from Alexandria's railway station at 1:10 pm, heading to Cairo. Train number 901, a special train, leaves Cairo at 8:10 am and arrives in Alexandria at 11:15 am. Furthermore, train number 906, an air-conditioned train, starts its journey from Alexandria at 7:00 am and ends in Cairo.
Additional train schedules are available for the Alexandria-Cairo route. Train number 912, an air-conditioned train, departs from Alexandria to Cairo at 11:30 am. Train number 905, a special train, leaves Ramses station at 9:00 am and arrives in Alexandria at 11:30 am. Moreover, train number 1109, a third-class air-conditioned train, departs from Cairo at 8:35 am and arrives in Alexandria at 12:10 pm.
Several more trains operate on the Cairo-Alexandria route. Notable trains include the Talgo train number 2022, which departs at 7:00 am, and the VIP train number 906, which leaves at 7:15 am. Other trains, such as the Tahya Misr train number 802 and the air-conditioned train number 1212, are also available, offering passengers a range of options for their travel needs.
