The Egyptian poultry sector has seen significant growth, with production of white chickens reaching 1.6 billion birds, a 14% increase from the previous year. According to Dr. Tarek Soliman, head of the Animal and Poultry Wealth Development Sector, this growth has led to a substantial increase in investment in the sector, exceeding 200 billion EGP. The poultry sector in Egypt comprises over 27,000 diverse farms, including those producing table eggs, broiler chickens, parent stock, and specialized companies producing parent and grandparent stock. According to Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk, these farms play a crucial role in meeting domestic demand and driving growth in the sector.
In the general poultry exchange, prices for white chickens stood at 73 EGP per kilogram. The Ministry of Agriculture is working to accelerate the opening of new markets to absorb the surplus local production, driven by the sector's rapid growth. This effort aims to support the sector's continued expansion and increase its contribution to the national economy.
Prices for broiler chickens, known as Saso, increased by around 2 EGP, reaching 107 EGP per kilogram in the general poultry exchange. Meanwhile, prices for white parent stock stood at 75 EGP per kilogram at the farm gate. These price movements reflect the dynamic nature of the poultry market in Egypt.
Various poultry exchanges, such as Mohamed Adel and Monir El-Saka, reported prices of 72 EGP for white chickens and 105-107 EGP for Saso chickens. The sector is considered a cornerstone of Egypt's food security and economy, and the government is working to provide support to small and large producers, as well as explore new export markets.
The government is providing financing options for breeders through cooperation with the National Bank of Egypt and the Agricultural Bank of Egypt. This financing aims to support the purchase of production inputs, such as feed, chicks, and veterinary medicines, as well as the development of breeding facilities. These efforts are expected to enhance production efficiency and increase economic returns for the sector.
