Egyptian Planning Minister Dr. Ahmed Rustom stated that the 'El Alamein Africa' forum, currently taking place in El Alamein, draws inspiration from the African Union's Agenda 2063. This agenda provides a long-term vision to stimulate investment, trade, and development in Africa. By increasing trade and investment returns between African countries and the rest of the world, the continent aims to achieve higher development rates.
According to Dr. Rustom, achieving these goals requires high-level consultations between governments and the private sector. The 'El Alamein Africa' forum serves as a translation of this vision, offering a suitable platform for African discussion and dialogue. The forum will be held biennially, with Egypt aiming to build on the current session's momentum in the 2028 edition.
The forum, taking place from October 2-4, features three high-level conferences. It commenced with a business forum attended by ministers, business leaders, investors, and African decision-makers. A summit for countries founding the African Union Development Agency (NEPAD) will be held on Sunday, and the forum will conclude with the 8th mid-year coordination meeting for the African Union.
Dr. Rustom highlighted that the 2063 Agenda serves as a future vision for the continent. The forum includes sessions on investing in information and communication technology, as well as financial technology integration. These discussions will focus on the impact of capital movement and e-commerce.
The Planning Minister emphasized that the forum's momentum will contribute to implementing the 2063 Agenda. During the forum, Egypt launched the '100 Million Teachers' initiative, allowing entrepreneurs and innovators to participate in programs that help translate their startup ideas into tangible projects.
The African Presidential Prize for Youth in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (AYAIR 2026) was also announced during the forum. This award represents part of Africa's future vision, with the continent possessing numerous ideas that can be translated into AI projects. These projects can be applied in various fields, such as agriculture, manufacturing, or payments.
Dr. Rustom stressed that the 'El Alamein Africa' forum has garnered significant interest from the African continent, demonstrating Egypt's commitment to supporting economic and developmental relations with African countries. The forum provides a platform for sharing ideas, translating them into projects, and fostering sustainable partnerships.
