Egyptian Planning Minister Dr. Ahmed Rustom held a high-level meeting with World Bank officials and representatives from several international financial and development institutions. The meeting aimed to review the progress and final steps for launching a new infrastructure financing mechanism in Egypt. This mechanism is considered a pioneering model for innovative financing and attracting private sector investments.

The meeting was attended by representatives from various international and regional institutions, including the African Development Bank, European Investment Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), British International Investment (BII), French Development Agency, World Bank Group (WBG), International Finance Corporation (IFC), German Development Bank, and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs. Dr. Rustom emphasized that the mechanism's development, in cooperation with the World Bank, aligns with presidential directives and comprehensive national efforts for structural economic reform.

The infrastructure financing mechanism aims to find innovative, long-term financing solutions in local currency and reduce investment risks. This will directly contribute to alleviating pressures on the state's budget and improving public spending efficiency. Dr. Rustom added that his ministry is working closely with the World Bank and relevant national authorities to ensure the rapid activation of the mechanism, focusing on vital economic and service sectors.

The sectors to be prioritized include renewable energy, water treatment and desalination plants, and modern transportation projects. These align with Egypt's Vision 2030 and support growth and employment targets. The meeting saw significant interest from participating international financial and development institutions, which expressed their eagerness to join the new mechanism and provide necessary guarantees and financing solutions.

The World Bank team presented a detailed overview of the project's progress, the mechanism's launch phases, and the timeline for its operational start.
