The New Valley Development Authority has signed a cooperation agreement with Al-Kharafi National to establish a comprehensive power supply system with a targeted capacity of 500 megavolt-amperes to serve around one million feddans in the western Minya Governorate. This move supports Egypt's national project to reclaim and cultivate 1.5 million feddans. The deal was signed between the New Valley Development Authority, led by Major General Amr Abdel Wahab, and Al-Kharafi National, led by Dr. Ahmed Zaki Badr.
The agreement includes the construction of six power transformer stations, including two with a voltage of 220/66/22 kilovolts and four with a voltage of 66/22 kilovolts. All stations will be of the gas-insulated type. This project is part of a larger plan to provide power to around one million feddans in the region by connecting to the national electricity grid with a total targeted capacity of 500 megavolt-amperes. The project will be implemented in stages to match the development needs in the region.
The power supply system will include high-voltage and medium-voltage networks with a total length of around 300 kilometers and 2352 kilometers, respectively. The project also involves the installation of around 16 distributors with a voltage of 22 kilovolts. The system is designed to meet sustainability and reliability standards in power supply. The New Valley Development Authority aims to execute the power supply system in stages, starting with a capacity of 100 megavolt-amperes, then increasing to 300 megavolt-amperes, and finally reaching 500 megavolt-amperes.
Major General Amr Abdel Wahab stated that the agreement with Al-Kharafi National is part of the authority's plan to complete the basic infrastructure necessary to support development in the western Minya Governorate. He emphasized that providing energy sources and basic services is crucial for the sustainability of reclamation, cultivation, and development activities. The authority is working to develop the basic infrastructure in various areas of the national project, according to a vision that aims to provide comprehensive development elements.
The use of gas-insulated power transformer stations is part of the effort to utilize modern technologies in implementing infrastructure projects, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the power supply system. Abdel Wahab noted that the implementation of the power supply system in stages allows for the development of power supply capacities in parallel with the execution of reclamation, cultivation, and development plans.
