The hospital was transferred to the General Authority for Healthcare, making it one of the key medical institutions supporting the new system. The hospital is one of seven that have been transferred to the General Authority for Healthcare and are currently operational, out of a total of 10 hospitals that will form the initial phase of the comprehensive health insurance system in Minya. Dr. Ahmed El-Sebki, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Healthcare and Supervisor General of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project, emphasized that the trial operation of the system in Minya represents a significant step towards expanding integrated healthcare services. He highlighted that the primary goal is for citizens to receive the necessary services near their places of residence and at a quality level that matches the development of the healthcare system in Egypt.
Dr. El-Sebki noted that Smalut Specialized Hospital is a prominent example of multi-specialty healthcare facilities within the governorate, with its human cadres, medical equipment, and specialized services. He stressed that expanding specialized services is a key aspect of ensuring that advanced services are provided to citizens within the governorate, reducing the need for them to travel outside for treatment.
The hospital's capacity includes 136 beds, comprising 76 beds in the internal department, 40 beds for intensive care, and 20 incubators for premature infants, in addition to five operating rooms, three recovery rooms, 16 emergency beds, and 17 external clinics. These facilities provide a comprehensive treatment journey for patients, from reception and emergency services to diagnosis, critical care, surgical interventions, and medical follow-up.
Dr. El-Sebki and Minya Governor, Major General Emad Kdwani, recently conducted an inspection tour at Smalut Specialized Hospital to monitor the smooth operation and level of medical services, as well as ensure the availability of necessary cadres and equipment to provide comprehensive healthcare services. The governor emphasized that the trial operation of the comprehensive health insurance system represents a qualitative leap in the level of medical services provided to Minya's residents.
Key aspects of the expansion include the addition of specialized services such as a stroke unit, joint surgeries, orthopedic endoscopy, sports injury surgeries, children's bone deformity surgeries, and spine surgeries.
