The Egyptian Ministry of Transport is taking steps to enhance investment in human capital, alongside the significant expansion of infrastructure development projects. The ministry aims to establish a specialized educational institution that combines academic education with technical and vocational training, research, and innovation. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to meet the needs of the local market and establish a regional role for the university in the Middle East and Africa.

The ministry recently participated in a workshop titled "Investing in Human Capital for Egypt's Transport Future: Moving Forward with the Vision of Establishing the Egyptian National University for Transportation and Technology (ENUT)". The workshop was hosted by the World Bank and attended by the South Korean ambassador to Cairo, as well as representatives from the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Foreign Affairs. During the workshop, the ministry presented its vision for preparing qualified cadres to plan, design, operate, and manage modern transportation systems.

The establishment of ENUT is part of a larger effort to develop the transportation sector, which has seen investments exceeding 2 trillion Egyptian pounds since 2014. These investments have focused on upgrading roads, railways, public transportation, ports, and logistics networks. The ministry recognizes that the expansion of capital investments requires parallel development of human capabilities to ensure the availability of skilled personnel to manage and operate new assets.

The ENUT project is being developed in collaboration with the World Bank, the Korean Green Growth Trust Fund (KGGTF), and academic and technical partners from South Korea. The project aims to create a specialized education system directly linked to the needs of the transportation sector and related industries. This includes developing specialized academic programs, enhancing practical training, and promoting applied research and innovation.

The workshop explored opportunities for cooperation with several Korean institutions, including the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Korea National University of Transportation (KNUT), and the Korea Maritime and Ocean University (KMOU). The event also brought together international development partners, such as the French Development Agency (AFD) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The Ministry of Transport aims to transform ENUT into a regional center for education, training, and applied research in transportation and related industries. The university is expected to serve the needs of Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa, while promoting technology transfer, and enhancing cooperation between academic institutions, the industrial sector, government agencies, and the private sector.

The project is expected to support the development of a specialized human base capable of keeping pace with technological developments and meeting the needs of the transportation system in the coming years. Key aspects of the project include developing specialized academic programs, enhancing practical training, and promoting applied research and innovation.
