Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, that it has raised its state of readiness to the maximum level in preparation for the winter agricultural season. The ministry has activated its plan to provide necessary supplies and seeds for the season, which is a top priority for the state to secure strategic crop supplies, particularly wheat.

Minister of Agriculture, Alaa Farouk, confirmed that the ministry has started implementing its plan, utilizing all available resources and services to support Egyptian farmers and overcome any challenges they face. The ministry aims to make high-quality, climate-resistant seeds available to farmers through authorized outlets and agricultural cooperatives in a timely manner.

The ministry's plan includes directing and educating farmers to adhere to the approved variety map for each governorate, ensuring optimal use of climate and soil characteristics to achieve the highest possible yield per acre. The plan also involves ensuring the regular distribution of fertilizers through the digital "Farmer's Card" system and intensifying inspection and monitoring of warehouses and cooperatives.

Minister Farouk instructed the research and extension sectors to provide technical support to farmers and apply modern recommendations, such as ridge farming and laser leveling, to optimize irrigation water use and reduce production costs. The ministry's plan also involves expanding the contractual agriculture system for several winter crops, offering competitive prices to encourage farmers to increase cultivated areas.

The ministry's efforts also focus on improving the efficiency of equipment and machinery used in land reclamation and providing them at reasonable prices to support farmers. The minister emphasized the continuation of implementing laws related to protecting agricultural land and preventing encroachments, including stopping support for any areas proven to have been encroached upon.

The Ministry of Agriculture has established central and branch operations rooms to monitor the distribution of supplies and respond promptly to farmers' needs and any emerging issues. The minister assured that the state is committed to protecting its agricultural assets and supporting farmers to achieve food security and sustainability.

The winter agricultural season is a critical period for Egypt, as it plays a significant role in securing the country's food supplies. The Ministry of Agriculture's preparations aim to ensure a successful season, and the government's support for farmers is expected to have a positive impact on the agricultural sector and the overall economy.
