The Egyptian Health Care Authority has initiated a project to develop ophthalmology services in partnership with the English hospital, Moorfields, and the Swiss company, Roche. This project aims to improve the quality of healthcare services provided to patients according to international standards. The project will start at the Ramed Hospital in Port Said, which will be the first center of excellence in ophthalmology.

The project is part of the Authority's strategy to enhance international partnerships, utilize modern technology, and keep medical staff updated on the latest scientific developments. This will improve clinical outcomes, diagnosis, and treatment, and enhance the patient experience. The project will also provide specialized training programs for medical staff and offer opportunities for external training and exchange of experiences.

As part of the project, a virtual clinic will be established at the Ramed Hospital in Port Said, in cooperation with Moorfields experts. This clinic will allow for the exchange of medical experiences, discussion of clinical cases, and provision of specialized medical consultations. The virtual clinic will also provide a second medical opinion for complex cases that require advanced specialized evaluation.

The project focuses on developing the capabilities of medical staff through specialized training programs, workshops, and sessions to exchange practices and experiences. This will be done in cooperation with Moorfields experts and will support the acquisition of new knowledge and skills. The project also includes opportunities for external training and exchange of experiences at Moorfields.

The cooperation between the Health Care Authority and Moorfields includes a series of scientific forums and virtual seminars for doctors, hospital managers, and medical and administrative teams. These forums will cover specialized topics, including retinal injections, surgical steps for interventional operations, and infection control protocols.

The project also aims to expand early screening programs to detect diabetic retinopathy in patients in the regions of Upper Egypt and the Canal. This will be achieved through the development of screening and early diagnosis mechanisms and the use of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and retinal imaging cameras.

The launch of the project reflects the Health Care Authority's orientation towards building a comprehensive and sustainable model of clinical excellence. The project is a step towards enhancing the position of Health Care Authority's facilities as centers of medical excellence and consolidating their ability to provide integrated specialized healthcare services.
