The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced that it has provided a total of 305,627 medical services at hospitals operated by the Therapeutic Institution in Cairo and Alexandria. These services were provided over a 45-day period, from August 1 to September 14, 2026. The effort aims to provide comprehensive healthcare and improve the quality and efficiency of medical services offered to citizens.
According to Dr. Hussam Abdel-Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, the services provided included 228,554 services at outpatient clinics and 43,021 prescriptions for medication from hospital pharmacies. Additionally, there were 12,609 cases admitted to internal wards, and 8,238 cases treated in emergency departments. These numbers reflect the wide range of medical services being offered.
The medical services also included 5,660 kidney dialysis sessions, 2,809 physical therapy sessions, and 2,621 cases that underwent interventional procedures. Furthermore, 1,176 blood and blood product dispensing services, 811 dental sessions, and 109 dental surgery sessions were provided. Nineteen chemotherapy sessions were also conducted, highlighting the variety of specialized care available.
Dr. Abdel-Ghaffar emphasized that the plan to develop Therapeutic Institution hospitals involved upgrading various departments, including intensive care units, nurseries, and outpatient clinics. New specialties were introduced, and several departments were renovated to provide better medical care. These upgrades aim to enhance the quality of services provided to patients across different medical specialties.
Dr. Mohamed Shaqweer, Chairman of the Therapeutic Institution's Board of Directors, noted that development work extended to several hospitals, including Heliopolis, where the internal cardiac department and modern operating rooms were activated. An advanced CT scanner was installed, and a bone marrow transplant unit was equipped. Similar upgrades were implemented in other hospitals to improve patient care.
In addition to these advancements, new specialized units were established in various hospitals to address specific medical needs. For example, a maternal and fetal medicine clinic was added at Mabra Al-Madi hospital, and a new operating room was opened at Mabra Egypt Al-Qadima hospital. These developments are part of a broader effort to enhance healthcare services across the Therapeutic Institution's facilities.
