The Egyptian Food Safety Authority conducted 90 factory inspection visits as part of its plan to enhance oversight of the food manufacturing sector. The visits aimed to assess facilities' compliance with quality and food safety requirements. Eleven facilities were registered, while 14 others met the authority's requirements and were allowed to operate. This effort is part of the authority's plan to improve and regulate the local and international food trade.
The authority's inspection efforts also included 68 oversight missions at packaging stations and centers. Additionally, 768 inspection visits were conducted on agricultural products prepared for export in various governorates. These visits resulted in the registration of six new facilities. The authority also issued 1106 export permits for agricultural products on behalf of 891 exporting companies.
According to the authority's report on exports and imports, approximately 4130 food shipments were exported, totaling 185,000 tons. These shipments were carried out by 1400 exporting companies and included around 750 types of food products. The products included vegetables, fruits, and various processed foods. The exported vegetables included 34 types, totaling 50,000 tons, with potatoes being the most exported at 15,000 tons.
The authority reported that 25 types of fruits were exported, totaling 30,000 tons. Strawberries were the most exported fruit at 9,000 tons, followed by mangoes and pomegranates. Syria was the top importer of Egyptian food exports, followed by Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Madagascar, and the United States. A total of 157 countries imported Egyptian food products.
The authority's report also showed that the Suez port came in first in terms of the number of food shipments exported, with 776 shipments. The Alexandria port came in second with 558 shipments, followed by the Damietta port with 525 shipments. The authority issued 1350 health certificates for export during the same period.
In terms of food imports, 2174 shipments were received, totaling 137,000 tons. These shipments were carried out by 870 companies and included various products such as wheat, oils, and soybeans. Russia was the top exporter to Egypt, followed by Indonesia, the United States, Ukraine, and Turkey. A total of 86 countries exported food products to Egypt.
The authority continued its efforts to monitor food storage facilities and strategic commodities. It carried out 54 oversight missions, including inspections of 68 food facilities. The authority also confiscated 122 imported food shipments and continued to confiscate 22 rejected shipments.
