According to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), Egypt's exports to South Korea totaled $44.6 million in the first half of 2026, compared to $40.1 million in the same period of 2025, representing an increase of 11.2%. This growth in exports is a positive indicator for Egypt's trade relations with South Korea.
In contrast, Egypt's imports from South Korea declined to $595.7 million in the first half of 2026, down from $661.1 million in the same period of 2025, marking a decrease of 9.9%. This reduction in imports contributed to a decline in the overall trade exchange between Egypt and South Korea, which stood at $640.3 million in the first half of 2026, compared to $701.2 million in the same period of 2025.
The CAPMAS data also revealed that the trade exchange between Egypt and South Korea decreased by 8.7% in the first half of 2026, primarily due to the decline in Egyptian imports from South Korea. Despite this, South Korea remains a significant trading partner for Egypt, with the country's investments in Egypt increasing substantially.
South Korean investments in Egypt surged to $736.3 million in the first half of the 2025/2026 fiscal year, up from $77.2 million in the same period of the 2024/2025 fiscal year, representing a remarkable increase of 853.8%. This significant rise in investments highlights the growing interest of South Korean businesses in the Egyptian market.
In terms of remittances, the data showed that Egyptian workers in South Korea sent $5.9 million in remittances during the 2024/2025 fiscal year, down from $7.7 million in the 2023/2024 fiscal year, a decrease of 23.3%. Meanwhile, South Korean workers in Egypt sent $4.82 million in remittances during the 2024/2025 fiscal year, slightly down from $4.84 million in the 2023/2024 fiscal year.
The growth in Egyptian exports to South Korea is a positive development for Egypt's economy, which has been seeking to diversify its trade partners and increase its exports. The increase in South Korean investments in Egypt also suggests that the country is becoming an attractive destination for foreign investors.
Overall, the trade data between Egypt and South Korea highlights the fluctuations in their economic relations. While there was a decline in imports and overall trade exchange, the growth in exports and investments presents opportunities for further cooperation and development between the two countries.
