Egypt's comprehensive health insurance scheme in Aswan has covered 1,379,073 beneficiaries, or 80.46% of the population, since its launch a year ago. The scheme offers a wide range of medical services through 112 centers and technological hubs across the province. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive healthcare to the local population, with the state covering all premiums for eligible citizens, including those enrolled in the "Takaful and Karama" program.
The Aswan health insurance scheme has provided over 162,000 various medical services, costing over 1.36 billion Egyptian pounds. These services include medical examinations, treatments, diagnostic tests, and specialized care. Additionally, 14,960 surgical operations were performed across different specialties and medical levels. The extensive range of services reflects the government's commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality.
The scheme has introduced advanced medical interventions, including 17 aortic valve implantation procedures via catheter (TAVI), 26 cochlear implantation surgeries, 82 corneal transplantation surgeries, one liver transplantation, four kidney transplantation surgeries, and 26 autologous bone marrow transplantation procedures. Furthermore, 374 open-heart surgeries for adults and 203 for children were conducted, along with 4,111 cardiac catheterizations for adults and 81 for children.
According to Dr. Hussam Sadek, Executive Director of the Egyptian Comprehensive Health Insurance Authority, the results achieved in Aswan demonstrate the ongoing efforts to expand health coverage and provide integrated medical services. The authority continues to work on enhancing the network of service providers and improving the efficiency of care, ensuring financial protection for citizens and alleviating their burdens.
Dr. Mostafa Abu El-Majd, Director General of the Aswan branch of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Authority, emphasized that the achievements over the past year are a testament to the integrated efforts of the scheme's sectors and partner entities. The branch continues to work on bringing services closer to citizens, expanding the network of service providers, and responding to feedback to improve service quality and beneficiary experience.
The scheme has facilitated 85,017 referrals, including 73,263 internal and 11,754 external referrals, in addition to issuing 75 exceptional approvals for critical cases and 28,220 prior approvals. For chronic disease management, 1,274 patients have benefited from kidney dialysis services, receiving a total of 198,744 dialysis sessions. The scheme also provides a range of laboratory and radiology services, as well as physical therapy and optical services.
The Aswan branch has continued to monitor the performance of healthcare facilities, conducting 361 incentive visits to encourage expansion of services and 212 field visits for evaluation and monitoring. Furthermore, the scheme has introduced advanced medical equipment, including four deep brain stimulation devices, and has performed complex surgeries, such as the implantation of a left ventricular assist device, at a cost of around 4.5 million Egyptian pounds.
