Egypt's Ministry of Social Solidarity recently convened the first coordination meeting with partner organizations to discuss preparations for a national vision and action plan to implement the principles of the Amman-Berlin Declaration. The meeting was chaired by Engineer Marguerite Sarofim, Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity. The Amman-Berlin Declaration aims to strengthen the rights of persons with disabilities and ensure their full and effective participation in society.
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Dr. Iman Karim, General Supervisor of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, and executives from various funds, such as Qaderoon Bi-Khatlaff and Ata'a. The discussions focused on developing a national proposal reflecting Egypt's vision for empowering persons with disabilities. This aligns with Egypt's adoption of the Amman-Berlin Declaration principles and the implementation of joint recommendations from the Arab Regional Conference.
The Amman-Berlin Declaration was adopted to enhance the rights of persons with disabilities and promote their inclusion in society. The Arab Regional Conference recommended developing a pilot model to help member states strengthen inclusion and care for persons with disabilities. Egypt, along with Jordan and Qatar, was advised to adopt a pilot model for implementation.
Engineer Marguerite Sarofim emphasized that the meeting marked a significant step towards formulating a national vision and common pillars for implementing the Amman-Berlin Declaration principles. The goal is to prepare a national report on the status of persons with disabilities in Egypt, highlighting efforts made and progress achieved by the state.
The national vision and action plan will focus on establishing clear mechanisms for coordination and integration among concerned national entities. This will be in harmony with Egypt's National Agenda, the National Strategy for Empowering Persons with Disabilities 2026-2030, and the Second Arab Decade for Persons with Disabilities 2023-2032.
The initiative aims to promote the integration of disability issues into all aspects of life. It seeks to translate national, regional, and international commitments into concrete, actionable, and measurable steps.
