The governor of Damietta, Egypt, has been overseeing efforts by the Supply and Internal Trade Directorate to conduct intensive campaigns on bakeries, markets, fuel stations, and warehouses. These efforts aim to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, protect citizens' rights, and prevent fraud and manipulation of subsidized goods. The campaigns are in line with directives from the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade.
The governor emphasized that daily and surprise campaigns will continue across various centers and cities in the governorate. The goal is to deal firmly with any violations that affect citizens' rights or the subsidy system. He stressed the importance of continued monitoring to ensure market stability and the availability of goods at suitable specifications and prices.
The campaigns, led by the Supply and Internal Trade Directorate, involved teams of inspectors from the directorate and its affiliated departments. The efforts resulted in 120 violations, including 97 in the bakery sector and 21 in the public market sector. The violations included cases of underweight bread, unauthorized disposal of flour, and failure to display prices.
In the bakery sector, 30 cases of underweight bread by less than 10 grams and 13 cases by less than 20 grams were recorded. Additionally, there were 22 cases of unauthorized disposal of flour, 12 cases of missing data lists, and 6 cases of missing registers. Other violations included failure to maintain cleanliness of dough tools and cessation of work without permission.
The campaigns also led to the seizure of various goods, including 121 kg of vegetable ghee of unknown origin, 700 kg of unknown-origin bran, and 150 liters of diesel fuel in cases of hoarding petroleum products and subsidized goods. Furthermore, 95 kg of meat was seized in cases of slaughter outside the slaughterhouse, and 150 kg of pickled vegetables was seized in a case of food fraud.
The seized goods included 11 containers of vegetable ghee, each weighing 11 kg, 20 sacks of bran, and subsidized goods worth 4576 Egyptian pounds. The governorate's authorities continue to monitor various commercial and food activities to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
