The Egyptian government has introduced the second phase of the Egyptian Tourism and Antiquities Training Platform (EGTAP), a joint initiative by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. This move aims to develop the training system and enhance the capabilities of human resources in the tourism and antiquities sector. The platform was first launched in July 2025 and has since provided over 420 free training courses in various specializations.
According to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the platform has benefited over 28,000 trainees since its inception. The second phase of EGTAP includes several technical updates to provide a more flexible and efficient training experience. These updates include recorded training courses that allow trainees to access the content at their convenience. The new system also features a question bank that enables trainees to take tests related to each course.
The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Shreef Fathy, emphasized that the launch of the second phase is part of the ministry's efforts to develop the training system and build a qualified workforce capable of meeting the rapidly changing requirements of the labor market. Fathy highlighted the importance of investing in human capital as a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development in the sector.
The EGTAP platform provides specialized training content targeting employees in the tourism and antiquities sector, as well as students, researchers, and enthusiasts. The platform offers various training courses, programs, and workshops presented by a selection of academics, experts, and specialists. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities ensures that the training content is continuously updated to keep pace with the needs of the sector.
Dr. Mohamed Shaban, Assistant Minister for Digital Services and Supervisor General of the EGTAP, revealed that the second phase includes several technical updates. These updates include a system that ensures trainees complete the recorded training content before moving on to the next part. The new system also allows for automated correction of tests, enabling trainees to obtain a certificate of completion upon successful completion.
The updates to the EGTAP platform also include the addition of a QR code to the certificates issued by the platform. This allows for verification of the certificate's authenticity and reduces the possibility of forgery. The platform's development did not only focus on the trainees' experience but also on the platform's management system.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, aims to provide high-quality training and enhance the skills of employees in the tourism and antiquities sector through the EGTAP platform. The platform's second phase is expected to further improve the sector's performance and competitiveness.
