The Egyptian government has initiated the fifth phase of its presidential tree planting initiative, aiming to plant 100 million trees across the country. This phase will see the planting of 7,750 trees in Damiette governorate. The initiative is part of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi's directives to expand green spaces, increase vegetation cover, and enhance the quality of life for citizens. The project seeks to improve the environment, beautify urban areas, and boost resilience to climate change impacts.

Dr. Manal Awad received a report from Dr. Said Helmy Abdel Khalek, head of the local planning and development sector, on the progress of the fifth phase in Damiette. The report outlined measures taken to identify planting sites, secure tree supplies, and distribute them across targeted areas. The goal is to maximize environmental and social benefits by focusing on areas that will have the greatest impact. The report confirmed that 7,750 trees of the Conocarpus and Tecoma species are slated for planting.

The authorities are currently working to supply the required trees to complete the plantation works in schools, along roads, and in targeted areas. This effort is being carried out in coordination with local executive authorities to ensure efficient implementation. The fifth phase builds on the success of previous phases, which have contributed significantly to enhancing the environmental landscape in Damiette.

The first phase of the initiative has already made significant progress, with 120 trees provided and planted in four schools. These include 15 trees at Umm al-Mu'minin girls' high school, 35 trees at Al-Farouq Omar primary school, 55 trees at the boys' technical school specializing in decorative arts, and 15 trees at the girls' technical school specializing in decorative arts. Such efforts demonstrate the government's commitment to involving educational institutions in environmental conservation.

The tree planting initiative is a key component of Egypt's strategy to combat climate change and improve environmental sustainability. By increasing vegetation cover, the government aims to mitigate the urban heat island effect, enhance biodiversity, and promote ecological balance. The project also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation among citizens.

The fifth phase of the initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the environment and communities in Damiette. Residents are likely to benefit from improved air quality, enhanced aesthetic appeal of public spaces, and increased green areas for recreation. The project aligns with Egypt's broader goals to achieve sustainable development and ensure a healthier environment for future generations.

The Egyptian government remains committed to achieving the objectives of the presidential initiative to plant 100 million trees. With the fifth phase underway in Damiette, the authorities are optimistic about the potential for positive environmental change. The initiative serves as a model for community involvement in environmental conservation and is expected to inspire similar projects across the country.
