The New Urban Communities Authority in Egypt has announced the launch of applications for 10,000 rent-to-own housing units in 26 new cities across the country. The application period began on September 20, 2026, and will continue until October 19, 2026. The housing units are part of various projects, including luxury, future, medium, and youth housing, among others.

The offered housing units are distributed across 26 new cities, including Cairo New Town, 15th of May City, Badr, El-Shorouk, El-Obour, 6th of October, and others. The units are either ready for delivery or will be completed within three years. The areas of the units range from 57 to 161 square meters. Five thousand units are already completed, while the remaining 5,000 will be built over the next three years.

The projects include various types of housing, such as El-Masouda, Valley Towers East, Sakn Misr, Dar Misr, and Janna, among others. The units will be allocated through an electronic application process via the "Maskan" portal. Applicants must create an account on the Egyptian Digital Platform to verify their identity and then link it to the "Masakan" portal to complete the booking process.

To be eligible, applicants must be between 21 and 45 years old and have the legal capacity to contract. They must not have previously owned a housing unit or a piece of land, either directly or through transfer, and must not have exceeded the maximum monthly income specified for the rental value of the unit. Family members, including spouses and minor children, are not allowed to apply for more than one unit.

The rental-to-own system requires applicants to pay a security deposit equivalent to three months' rent for the first year, with a minimum of the down payment made. The deposit must be paid within 30 days of notification of allocation and will be updated annually based on the approved rental value increase. For units to be built, applicants must pay the down payment and quarterly installments for three years before taking possession of the unit.

The New Urban Communities Authority has specified that the housing units will be allocated based on a set of rules and conditions outlined in the terms and conditions booklet. The booklet includes details on the cities and projects offered, unit areas, monthly rental values, maintenance costs, and allocation and contracting rules.

Applications can be submitted electronically through the "Masakan" portal during the specified period. The Egyptian government aims to provide affordable housing options for citizens through such initiatives. The program allows citizens to own homes through a rent-to-own system, making homeownership more accessible.
