The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) and London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) recently held a joint roundtable in Cairo to discuss ways to expand Egyptian companies' access to regional and international capital markets. The meeting brought together senior officials from the exchange and LSEG, as well as representatives from international financial institutions, legal firms, and capital-market experts. This collaboration aims to develop Egypt's capital market and attract more global investment. The discussions focused on addressing companies' growing financing needs and creating alternative channels for Egyptian businesses to tap into international capital sources.

Chairman of the EGX Omar Radwan emphasized the exchange's commitment to developing the Egyptian capital market and opening new financing opportunities for local companies. He highlighted that strengthening integration with global financial markets, particularly LSEG, is crucial for enabling national companies to access international capital and liquidity needed for expansion and growth. Radwan also noted that this would support broader economic development and improve Egypt's investment environment. The joint effort seeks to enhance the exchange's capabilities and provide Egyptian companies with better access to global capital.

The roundtable included five sessions that examined the challenges and opportunities facing Egyptian companies seeking to raise capital domestically and internationally. The sessions covered topics such as meeting growing financing requirements, liquidity distribution, and international visibility. LSEG Head of Primary Markets for the Middle East and Africa Abi Ajayi chaired one of the sessions, which focused on how companies can meet their increasing financing needs. Other sessions explored alternative routes for Egyptian companies to raise capital through the London market and reforms to develop the domestic capital market.

The discussions also addressed the readiness of companies for listing, including barriers to accessing public markets. Deloitte Capital Markets and Equity Partner Simon Olsen led a session on this topic. Another session, moderated by White & Case Capital Markets Partner Iñigo Estévez, explored alternative routes for Egyptian companies to raise capital through the London market beyond traditional large-scale initial public offerings. The final session examined reforms to develop the domestic capital market and efforts to strengthen cross-border regulatory frameworks.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to continued coordination between the EGX and LSEG to support large Egyptian and international companies. The participants agreed on several practical follow-up actions to address gaps identified during the discussions. The EGX aims to move the dialogue beyond identifying challenges to a defined course of action capable of delivering tangible and sustainable results for the capital market. This collaboration is expected to have a positive impact on Egypt's capital market and investment environment.

The roundtable was attended by senior officials from the EGX and LSEG, including EGX Vice Chairman Mohamed Sabry and LSEG Regional Sales Manager Mohamed Akel. Representatives from Deloitte, White & Case, Goodwin, and Deutsche Bank also participated in the meeting. The outcomes of the discussions are expected to contribute to the development of Egypt's capital market and enhance access to international capital for Egyptian companies.

The EGX and LSEG's joint effort is part of a broader initiative to support the growth and development of Egypt's capital market. By expanding access to international markets, Egyptian companies can tap into a broader pool of domestic and international investors. This collaboration is expected to have a positive impact on Egypt's economy and investment environment, providing new opportunities for local companies to access global capital and liquidity.
