Paulo Guglielmini, NVIDIA's Vice President for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, has stated that Egypt possesses strong elements that qualify it to lead the artificial intelligence (AI) economy. This is supported by a wide base of engineers, developers, and startups. He made these remarks during an NVIDIA event in Egypt.
Guglielmini revealed that over 200 Egyptian startups are currently registered under NVIDIA's Inception program. This program supports startups through computing capabilities, connectivity, and access to markets. Additionally, there are tens of thousands of Egyptian developers on the CUDA platform.
Egypt has one of the largest gatherings of engineering talent in Africa, with Egyptian universities producing tens of thousands of engineers annually. This provides a human base capable of developing AI applications and solutions. Guglielmini emphasized that building an AI-based economy relies on an integrated system of five main layers: energy, infrastructure and computing, chips, models, and applications.
The applications represent the largest part of the economic opportunities provided by AI. Models do not achieve significant value on their own unless linked to data, context, and the needs of various sectors. The opportunity for Egyptian developers and software companies lies in employing these models, linking them to data and institutional systems, and converting them into solutions targeting specific needs in various sectors.
Post-training operations represent a significant opportunity for Egypt and Europe in the coming period. This is especially true with the growing reliance on open models that can be customized according to the nature of each sector, dataset, or language. NVIDIA not only focuses on providing chips but also offers open tools, libraries, and models to developers.
Building a comprehensive AI economy requires the parallel development of various components of the system. This includes talent, capital, energy, infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks that support innovation. NVIDIA aims to support this system by connecting talent and startups with computing capabilities, infrastructure, and markets.
Guglielmini invited Egyptian startups and developers to participate in NVIDIA events scheduled to take place in Berlin from October 20 to 22. These events will address AI developments, financing opportunities, and enhancing communication between startups, customers, and partners from around the world.
