Egypt's Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, recently attended the main phase of the Medusa-15 joint military exercise, held in Greece. The exercise involved forces from Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, France, and Italy. The event was also attended by high-ranking officials, including General Dimitrios Choupis, Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, and Lieutenant General Emmanuel Theodorou, Commander of the Cypriot National Guard.

The Medusa-15 exercise involved a range of military units, including naval, air, and air defence forces, as well as border guards, reconnaissance units, and special forces. The exercise included paratroopers and commandos, who conducted various drills and training activities. The event was designed to enhance the capabilities of the participating forces and promote cooperation between the countries involved.

The main phase of the exercise began aboard the Egyptian helicopter carrier Gamal Abdel Nasser with a presentation outlining the training activities. The participating forces then conducted a series of joint operational drills, including offensive and defensive air sorties against simulated hostile targets. These drills were coordinated with Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) teams to support precision strikes.

The exercise included a range of activities, such as airborne drops to secure a beachhead and free-fall parachute jumps. Naval forces carried out Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations against a suspected vessel, while special forces conducted raids on coastal targets. The drills also included an amphibious assault to seize vital objectives.

The exercise involved extensive participation from various units, including landing craft deployed from the Gamal Abdel Nasser, which carried special forces from participating countries. Attack helicopters provided fire support to secure their approach. The event concluded with naval sailing formations and an air show by participating air forces.

Earlier phases of Medusa-15 included live-fire exercises by participating naval units, firing drills and facility-assault exercises by special forces, and reconnaissance training involving explosive drones targeting simulated hostile naval movements. Border guard units exchanged expertise on maritime surveillance, monitoring, and countering illicit activities.

The exercise also included a cybersecurity training course focused on emerging cyber threats and challenges. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Egyptian and French ambassadors to Greece. The Medusa-15 exercise aims to promote cooperation and enhance the capabilities of the participating forces.
