Edwin Masoane, a 28-year-old from Sebokeng Zone 14 in the Vaal Triangle, South Africa, is living multiple careers that most people take a lifetime to achieve. He is an executive radio producer at CUT FM 105.8, a national award-winning content producer, and a live television production crew member for SuperSport Schools. Additionally, he is a fast-rising DJ, having recently performed at a notable event. Masoane's story is one of resilience, reinvention, and refusing to be limited to one identity.

Masoane's early life was marked by hardship, including the death of his father in 2007. He was bullied and later joined a gang, but he eventually walked away and formed a learner protection group called Sdala with four friends. The group grew into a 20-member organisation that helped protect bullied pupils across Hoërskool Drie Riviere. Despite financial struggles, Masoane continued to pursue his education, initially enrolling at the Central University of Technology. However, when NSFAS funding fell through, he had to leave and later enrolled at PasMedia College to study radio production.

Masoane's break in the radio industry came when CUT FM heard his WokeCandy podcast and recruited him. Within the same year, he was promoted to Executive Radio Producer, overseeing flagship programmes such as Y'ellow Mornings, CampusHangout, Midday Experience, and NXT LVL Drive. According to Masoane, radio production involves more than just pressing buttons. He explained that the presenter is the voice people hear, but the producer is the mastermind behind the scenes, responsible for finding stories, booking guests, preparing scripts, planning music, and managing timing.

Masoane's work has earned national recognition, including a national daytime radio award. He attributed the award to teamwork rather than individual glory, stating that it felt incredible and unreal. Masoane also served as Chief Financial Officer of Enactus at CUT, where he learned discipline that still guides his media career. He noted that balancing creativity and finance requires treating creativity like a business and business like a creative challenge.

Music has always been part of Masoane's life, having grown up in a family of singers, DJs, and music lovers. He remembers listening to his late father's cassettes every Sunday. In 2025, Masoane fell in love with DJ equipment at the radio station and began teaching himself how to mix. He would often leave the station at one in the morning, five or six days a week, until he finally understood the craft.

As a DJ, Masoane has performed at various events, with one of his most memorable performances being a recent show. He has also been involved in live television production as a crew member for SuperSport Schools. Masoane's experience in different fields has taught him to be versatile and adaptable. He credits his ability to balance creativity and finance to his experience as a CFO.

Today, Masoane continues to excel in his multiple careers, inspiring others with his story of resilience and reinvention. His achievements serve as a testament to the importance of hard work, determination, and refusing to be limited by one's circumstances. As he continues to grow in his careers, Masoane remains focused on teamwork and treating creativity like a business.
