The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has commenced its 2026 Customer Service Week, a week-long programme that runs from October 6 to October 9. The theme of this year's celebration is "The Extra Mile." According to a statement by Courage Eboigbe, Head of Corporate Communications and Taxpayers Enlightenment Service at EIRS, the event aims to promote service delivery that exceeds the minimum expectations of customers.
The Executive Chairman of EIRS, John Osirenimhe Odior, has praised the agency's workforce for their professionalism, diligence, and commitment to excellence. He noted that staff members serve both internal and external customers with courtesy, integrity, and care, which has strengthened public confidence in the institution. Odior saluted the staff for consistently rising above the call of duty, whether on the front line or behind the scenes.
Chairman Odior also extended appreciation to taxpayers, crediting their voluntary compliance, patience, and constructive feedback for the agency's growth and for funding essential public services such as schools, hospitals, and roads. He stated that the Service is honoured by their trust and remains committed to serving them with efficiency, transparency, and respect.
The theme "The Extra Mile" emphasizes the standard that EIRS sets for itself, which involves resolving concerns promptly, anticipating customers' needs, and treating every interaction as an opportunity to make a difference. Chairman Odior urged staff and stakeholders to use the week to recognize outstanding service, celebrate achievements, and rededicate themselves to continuous improvement.
During the celebration, EIRS aims to promote a culture of exceptional service delivery. The agency encourages its staff to reflect on their roles and responsibilities in ensuring that taxpayers receive the best possible service. This includes addressing their concerns promptly and providing them with the necessary support.
The Customer Service Week is an annual event that provides EIRS with an opportunity to engage with taxpayers and other stakeholders. It enables the agency to assess its performance, identify areas for improvement, and make necessary adjustments to enhance service delivery.
As the week-long celebration continues, EIRS is expected to undertake various activities, including sensitization programmes and interactive sessions with taxpayers. These events will provide a platform for the agency to receive feedback from taxpayers and make necessary adjustments to its operations.
