Ecobank Ghana PLC has launched a refurbished Digital Learning Centre at the La-Nkwantanang Cluster of Schools in La-Nkwantanang Municipality. The centre, equipped with 26 computers and accessories, was financed by Ecobank Ghana under its Transforming Africa Through Education programme. This initiative is part of the Ecobank Group's 40th anniversary celebrations. The centre aims to serve over 2,000 pupils from eight basic schools within the cluster.
The Digital Learning Centre will provide pupils with practical skills in coding, web development, animation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies. The Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana PLC, Mrs Abena Osei-Poku, stated that the initiative reflects the bank's commitment to preparing young people for a rapidly changing digital world. The centre is an integral part of the bank's efforts to equip pupils with the necessary skills for the future.
The theme for this year's Ecobank Day celebration, "Building Tomorrow's Skills Today," highlights the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to understand and use technology. Mrs Osei-Poku emphasized that technology is transforming education, communication, employment, and business, making it crucial for children to acquire digital skills from an early age.
The centre is not just a room with computers but a platform where pupils can explore ideas, develop their creativity, solve problems, and discover opportunities that can shape their future. Mrs Osei-Poku encouraged the pupils to be curious about technology, experiment, ask questions, and learn from their mistakes. She also mentioned that Ecobank affiliates across Africa have built or refurbished 66 IT laboratories over the past three years, benefiting over 46,000 children and young people.
The Municipal Director of Education, Mr Philip Aidoo, commended Ecobank Ghana for the initiative, stating that the facility demonstrates the bank's commitment to equipping pupils with the skills required to remain relevant in an increasingly digital-driven world. The Head Teacher of Nkwantanang M/A Basic School 1, Mr Thomas Kwasi Lissah, also expressed gratitude to Ecobank for the intervention, noting that the facility will significantly enhance the teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology among pupils within the cluster.
The Digital Learning Centre is expected to have a positive impact on the education of pupils within the La-Nkwantanang Cluster of Schools. The centre's opening is a significant milestone in Ecobank Ghana's efforts to support education and promote digital skills among young people. The bank's initiative aligns with its goal of transforming Africa through education and preparing young people for the future.
The inauguration of the Digital Learning Centre was part of the 2026 Ecobank Day celebration.
