The Western Regional Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been awarded the Most Responsive Utility Service Provider at the 2026 Western Regional Media and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Awards. Organized by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the ceremony was held in Takoradi and recognized ECG for its commitment to customer concerns and effective communication with the public and media.

The award citation commended ECG for swift responses to customer complaints, including power outages, prepaid meter installation, and billing issues. The GJA noted the strong working relationship between ECG and the media, facilitated through a WhatsApp platform involving senior ECG managers and journalists. This platform enabled direct engagement, allowing journalists to report outages and receive timely responses from the company.

The ECG maintenance team at Sekondi was also singled out for its efforts in restoring reliable power supply to communities. A notable instance was the installation of 315kVA and 200kVA transformers at Shama after prolonged power outages affected the Shama Municipal Assembly and Municipal Hospital. The team worked over 12 hours in the rain to complete the task.

The recognition drew enthusiastic applause from guests, with several attendees sharing personal accounts of ECG's responsiveness. One guest recounted how a damaged electricity pole was quickly fixed after she reported it, demonstrating the company's commitment to customer service.

The award reflects not only the work of ECG's management but also the efforts of field engineers, fault teams, maintenance crews, and customer-facing staff. Their work often takes place away from public view, sometimes under difficult conditions, to restore power and address customer concerns.

The GJA also recognized Benjamin Quarcoo, a former Western Regional Public Relations Officer of ECG, for his contribution to strengthening the company's public image and relationship with the media and communities. Quarcoo was honored for helping navigate considerable reputational challenges while building a strong relationship with the media.

The dual recognition of ECG and Quarcoo offered a notable acknowledgement of both institutional performance and the people who have helped shape the institution's relationship with the public. The award was presented at a ceremony themed “Reporting Progress, Investing in People,” which brought together journalists, media practitioners, corporate institutions, and stakeholders to celebrate excellence in journalism and recognize corporate contributions to regional development.
