The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Ifeanyi Odii, has dismissed claims that he intends to withdraw from the February 6, 2027 election. Odii made this statement during a meeting with journalists in his hometown of Isu, in the Onicha Local Government Area of the state. He emphasized that he remains in the race, determined to tackle hunger and poverty and improve governance if elected.

According to Odii, the PDP gave him its ticket through a consensus arrangement, and he is committed to offering Ebonyi residents better governance. He described the alleged pressure on him to step down, attributed to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, as political manoeuvring. Odii stressed that he has a lot to offer in government and is contesting to be the governor of Ebonyi State.

Odii maintained that he has not been asked by Umahi to withdraw and would not abandon the contest. He expressed respect for Umahi but emphasized his determination to continue in the race. “I am contesting, and I want to say that I am still in the race. I am not giving up,” he added.

The PDP candidate outlined that his campaign would focus on improving the welfare of residents, creating employment opportunities, and addressing economic hardship. He emphasized the need for good governance, stating that it is essential for the betterment of Ebonyi, not only for today but for tomorrow.

Odii revealed that his campaign is reaching voters through door-to-door activities and social media engagement, claiming to have nearly three million followers across his platforms. This approach allows him to connect directly with the people and understand their concerns.

The PDP candidate also pledged to improve access to medical education and strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce. He cited the migration of Nigerian medical professionals abroad as a major challenge, which has placed additional pressure on the country’s healthcare system. Odii aims to address these issues to improve healthcare outcomes in Ebonyi.

Odii's ambition is to put Ebonyi on a path of progress, prosperity, and sustainable development. He urged registered voters in the state to support his candidacy, arguing that purposeful leadership and properly managed institutions are necessary to deliver meaningful development. With his campaign gaining momentum, Odii is determined to make a positive impact in Ebonyi.
