The Eastern Egypt youth department is moving forward with its national project to popularize hockey, involving 40 students in a comprehensive 7-month training program. The initiative aims to broaden the base of hockey players and identify promising young talents. According to Dr. Mona Othman, Undersecretary of the Eastern Egypt Youth and Sports Ministry, the project is in its second phase, focusing on developing the skills of the participating students.

The project has already started with selection tests for sports talents, attracting participants in eight sports: wrestling, judo, taekwondo, boxing, athletics, table tennis, basketball, and fencing. These tests are conducted based on specific technical and physical standards. The goal is to identify and nurture young athletes who can represent Eastern Egypt and Egypt in various sports events.

Dr. Othman highlighted that the project’s activities include continuous training sessions at the covered hall in Zagazig, alongside specialized training in judo, taekwondo, and athletics, supervised by expert coaches. The program also includes recognizing and rewarding outstanding and committed players, which serves as motivation for young athletes to excel.

In a related effort, the Hoda Al-Nada Sports Club organized a blood donation campaign in collaboration with the blood bank at Belbeis Hospital. The event saw significant participation from club members, demonstrating the role of sports institutions in community service and promoting a culture of volunteering and giving.

The Eastern Egypt youth department continues to focus on preparing participants physically and conducting medical examinations as part of the selection process for the National Talent and Olympic Champion project. This rigorous preparation is crucial for identifying and nurturing top talent, ensuring they are ready for future competitions.

Eastern Egypt Governor, Engineer Hazem Al-Ashmouni, emphasized the importance of supporting youth and sports programs. He noted that these initiatives are vital for expanding sports participation, discovering new talents, and building a generation capable of representing the region and Egypt in international sports events.

As part of its community engagement, the youth department organized a one-day camp at the Abu Kabir Youth Center. Such events are designed to engage young people in various activities, promote teamwork, and provide a platform for identifying and developing sports talents.
