Jaishankar highlighted India's stance on AI, stating that every nation has the right to shape its AI ecosystem through development of its own models and deployment strategies in line with national goals and priorities.
Jaishankar mentioned that India views AI as a crucial part of its partnership agenda with the Global South. He noted that AI will be an essential component of India's collaborations with other nations. The minister also highlighted the importance of mutual respect as technology becomes more accessible, stating that consideration for the interests and viewpoints of others strengthens prospects for peace.
The External Affairs Minister emphasized the role of culture and heritage in promoting international understanding in a globalized world. He stated that economic and political rebalancing is already underway, and cultural rebalancing must now be advanced. Jaishankar added that as technology is democratized, this process is greatly facilitated by an ethos of mutual respect.
Jaishankar highlighted the challenges faced by the Global South, including food, fuel, fertilizer, and finance crises. He warned that the misuse of AI is creating new concerns and undermining mutual respect. The minister noted that the Global South's right to industrialize is also undermined by non-market practices and market denial.
The misuse of AI is sharpening bias and diluting mutual respect, Jaishankar said, adding that these directions bode ill for the aims and objectives of the United Nations. He also raised concerns over attacks on seafarers at the UNGA, emphasizing that safety must not be compromised.
Jaishankar's address at the UNGA also touched upon the importance of reformed multilateralism. He stated that the march towards a democratic future cannot be halted and called for a more inclusive and representative global order.
In his speech, Jaishankar also mentioned India's efforts to promote international understanding through cultural exchange. He highlighted the need for nations to work together to address global challenges and promote peace and prosperity.
