The Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, John Banza Lunda, has completed a tour of the Kasaï region, inspecting various road infrastructure projects. The Kaluebo Bridge, spanning the Kaluebo River, has been officially opened to traffic, bringing an end to years of difficulties for users of this strategic axis. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Crispin Mukendi, Governor of Kasaï Central Province. The bridge's completion is part of the government's program to modernize and interconnect the road network in the Kasaï provinces, facilitating the exchange of goods and people.
During his tour, Minister Banza Lunda also inspected the Tshikapa-Kananga road, where 22 kilometers of road have been fully paved with asphalt. Additionally, 30 kilometers of road are currently undergoing maintenance work, including the installation of culverts and preparation of the wearing course. A further 13 kilometers of road require preliminary earthwork before paving can commence.
In the locality of Miyao, construction of a mixed bridge is progressing rapidly, with the installation of the metal structure nearing completion. The project aims to improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth in the region. Minister Banza Lunda also evaluated the Kalamba-Mbuji road, a vital economic route, where 35 kilometers of road have already been fully paved.
To ensure the completion of the Kalamba-Mbuji road project, the central government has released an additional $40 million in funding. This will enable the project to move forward without delay and guarantee the completion of the work. The project is expected to have a significant impact on regional integration and economic development.
The third session of the Steering Committee for the rehabilitation and decongestion of National Road 1 (RN1) was held, focusing on the Kamwesha-Mbulungu-Kananga section. The committee discussed the project's progress, performance contracts, and the project's roadmap. The project has created 800 direct jobs and mobilizes around 80 expatriate experts.
