Deputy President Kithure Kindiki recently visited Lari Constituency to assess the progress of several major infrastructure projects. He was accompanied by area MP Mburu Kahangara and inspected the Nyambari Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market, a modern two-story facility designed to accommodate over 120 traders. The market is 70 per cent complete and is expected to be handed over within the next two months. The facility will feature specialized amenities, including a mother's room, a children's play area, and a cold and dry storage facility.
The ESP Market has already generated over 100 jobs for local laborers and professionals during its construction phase. Additionally, the market will house an ICT hub aimed at driving digital transformation and supporting electronic commerce. Kindiki also announced plans to commence construction on more facilities, including the Soko Mjinga market, which is nearing completion, and the Kagaa market in Kamburu Ward. These projects aim to uplift livelihoods in Kiambu and demonstrate the government's commitment to economic transformation and rural empowerment.
Kindiki also inspected the 15-kilometer Nyambari-Uplands-Kambaa-Githunguri Road, where he officially kicked off the bitumen laying process. This project is part of a broader 53-kilometer road network within Lari Constituency being executed under a single contract. The road network includes the Kagwe-Githunguri and Kagwe-Mung'eero roads. During the tour, Kindiki also reviewed the ongoing construction works on the Kagaa-Githirioni-Kirenga-Kimende Road.
The Deputy President confirmed that the dualling of the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway is on course. The massive Sh200 billion project will expand the highway into four lanes, and up to six lanes in designated high-traffic sections. Across Kiambu County, the national government is currently overseeing the construction of 1,656 km of new roads valued at Sh152 billion, with 368 km already fully completed.
Lari MP Mburu Kahangara emphasized that securing these mega-projects reflects an active legislative effort to lobby for national flagship programs in roads, markets, and irrigation. These projects extend far beyond the scope of the local National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF). Kahangara was joined by his Thika counterpart, Alice Ng'ang'a, during the tour.
Kindiki's visit to Lari Constituency also highlighted the government's efforts to support the agricultural sector. Last Friday in Limuru, Kindiki announced that the government's subsidy programs have successfully driven down the cost of fertilizer from Sh7,000 to Sh2,000 per bag. The government has also distributed 230 milk coolers nationwide, with 650 more scheduled for procurement starting in February.
During the visit, Kindiki flagged off nine modern milk coolers to support 21,000 dairy farmers organized under various cooperative societies across Kiambu County. These projects demonstrate the government's commitment to boosting farmer yields and incomes, as well as mitigating post-harvest spoilage in the dairy sector.
