American food delivery company DoorDash has announced plans to create 3,000 new jobs in India over the next two years. The company has opened a new global tech hub in Hyderabad, southern India, which will initially employ around 500 people in customer service, administrative, and general roles. This move reflects the growing trend of global tech companies expanding their operations in Indian service centers.

The Hyderabad center is DoorDash's second tech office in India, following its facility in Pune, which focuses on software, data, and analytics. The Pune office was acquired as part of DoorDash's purchase of robotics startup Chopeotics in 2021. The new Hyderabad center is the company's third customer service hub globally, after locations in Arizona, USA, and Mexico City.

The expansion comes as companies increasingly turn to Global Capability Centers (GCCs) to reduce costs and reliance on external IT providers while leveraging India's talent pool and technical skills. DoorDash joins several global companies that have recently opened centers in Hyderabad, including Costco, McDonald's, Charles Schwab, Marriott, and Southwest Airlines.

India is now the world's largest hub for GCCs, with over 2,100 centers employing around 2.36 million people and generating approximately $100 billion in revenue. A report by Nasscom-Zenefits predicts that GCCs will continue to drive India's technology services sector, with global companies moving more support, technology, data, and administrative functions to the country.

The decision to expand in Hyderabad underscores India's attractiveness as a global center for tech operations and shared services for multinational corporations. DoorDash's plans to add 3,000 jobs over two years demonstrate the company's commitment to leveraging India's talent pool and strategic location.

According to the government of Telangana state, the new center will start operations with specialized teams in customer service, administrative roles, and general functions. The expansion of DoorDash's operations in India is seen as a significant development in the country's growing tech sector.

With its new tech hub in Hyderabad, DoorDash is poised to capitalize on India's growing reputation as a hub for global tech operations. The company's investment in the country is expected to contribute to India's position as a leading destination for multinational corporations looking to establish or expand their operations.
