A two-day medical camp is set to take place at Uhuru Gardens Primary School in Nairobi, offering free medical services to residents of Lang'ata and neighbouring areas. The event, scheduled for November 7 and 8, is organised by the Davji Atellah Foundation and will feature over 250 medical practitioners, including specialists. They will provide consultations, screenings, treatment, medication, and referrals for patients requiring further medical attention.

The medical camp aims to address barriers that prevent residents from accessing specialised healthcare, including long waiting periods and the cost of treatment. Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary-General Dr Davji Bhimji Atellah stated that the initiative seeks to provide residents with an opportunity to access a range of medical services at no cost. The camp will offer services such as dental care, ophthalmology, oxygen screening, and general medical consultations.

The Davji Atellah Foundation has partnered with several healthcare institutions, including Nairobi Hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital, and Luton Hospital, to ensure patients requiring additional care are referred for further treatment. Patients will also receive free medication, and those requiring specialised treatment beyond the services available at the camp will be referred to partner healthcare facilities.

The medical initiative is part of Atellah's engagement with Lang'ata residents ahead of the 2027 General Election, having declared his intention to contest the constituency's parliamentary seat. Atellah's interactions with communities across different wards have highlighted the need to improve access to healthcare and address challenges affecting vulnerable households.

Healthcare access has emerged as one of the key concerns raised by residents during Atellah's community engagements. This informed the decision to organise the medical camp, which will also support residents in accessing essential social services through registration assistance for the Social Health Authority (SHA), voter registration, national identification cards, and registration of persons with disabilities.

Atellah's political ambitions come against the backdrop of his leadership at KMPDU, where he has been involved in advocating for improved working conditions and welfare of healthcare professionals. He has previously identified healthcare and education as key priorities he would pursue if elected to represent Lang'ata in Parliament.

The two-day medical camp is expected to provide residents with an opportunity to access a range of medical services at no cost while connecting patients requiring further treatment to appropriate healthcare facilities. The event is a significant step towards addressing healthcare concerns in Lang'ata and demonstrating Atellah's commitment to improving the lives of residents.
