Malawi's Deputy Minister of Industrialisation, Business, Trade and Tourism Edgar Tembo has commended the private sector for its role in driving the country's industrialisation agenda. Tembo made these remarks during the official opening of the refurbished K13 billion CFAO Mobility 3S facility at Top Mandala in Blantyre. The facility has been modernised to meet contemporary standards in the automotive industry.
The Deputy Minister emphasised that the government remains committed to creating an enabling environment that encourages businesses to invest in industries that support economic growth and the attainment of the Malawi 2063 development aspirations. Tembo highlighted that private sector investment plays a critical role in driving innovation, creating employment opportunities and supporting the country's development aspirations.
The CFAO Mobility 3S facility integrates sales, servicing and spare parts, providing customers with a comprehensive range of automotive services under one roof. This investment is significant in strengthening Malawi's industrial base and promoting economic growth, in line with the Malawi 2063 vision. The facility's modernisation demonstrates the firm's confidence in Malawi's economy and will further strengthen the automotive industry through improved technology, skills development and customer service.
CFAO Mobility Malawi Limited Managing Director Kennedy Kabaghe said the investment was particularly significant considering the economic challenges facing Malawi and the contraction of the new vehicle market by approximately 30 percent. The company has invested K13 billion in the Blantyre facility, including workshop modernisation and new equipment.
Kabaghe also disclosed that CFAO Mobility had opened another facility in Lilongwe, further expanding its investment in the country. He said the investment was a clear statement of the firm's intention to remain a committed partner in Malawi's future. The company's investment in people, skills, technology and customer experience in the mobility industry will support Malawi's economy.
The Deputy Minister's sentiments align with the government's efforts to promote economic growth through private sector investment. The Malawi 2063 vision aims to transform the country into an industrialised, middle-income economy. The government's commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive is crucial in achieving this vision.
The CFAO Mobility facility is a milestone for the broader industry, and its impact will be felt across the economy. The investment will create employment opportunities, promote skills development and improve customer service in the automotive industry. The facility's modernisation is a testament to the private sector's role in driving Malawi's industrialisation agenda.
