De Beers Group recently participated in Jewellery & Gem WORLD Hong Kong (JGW), a four-day event that took place from September 16 to 19. The company created an immersive experience centered on Desert diamonds, drawing inspiration from nature and human craftsmanship. This showcase is part of De Beers Group's efforts to build confidence in the natural diamond category, guided by its Building Forever sustainability framework and diamond traceability strategy.

The Desert diamonds initiative is De Beers Group's first major beacon initiative in over a decade and its largest category-marketing investment in 15 years. Following its successful Asian debut in Shanghai in July, the initiative returned to Hong Kong. De Beers Group aims to strengthen long-term confidence in the natural diamond category by working with strategic partners across the value chain. The company's leadership, including CEO Al Cook, attended a breakfast meeting with industry partners to discuss future opportunities and collaboration.

The breakfast meeting brought together industry leaders, including Lekoko S. Kenosi, Ambassador of Botswana to China, and Nosiphiwo Mzamo, Chief Executive Officer of the State Diamond Trader of South Africa. De Beers Group's leadership exchanged views with industry partners on the future of the natural diamond industry. Al Cook emphasized the company's commitment to China, a market that has been important to De Beers Group for over half a century. He expressed confidence in the long-term opportunity presented by the Chinese market.

Paul Rowley, Executive Vice President of Diamond Trading at De Beers Group, discussed the current state of the natural diamond market. He noted that the market is gradually stabilizing, with supply and demand moving towards equilibrium and diamond prices showing signs of recovery. Rowley emphasized the importance of effective supply management and investment in detection, grading, and traceability systems to distinguish between natural and laboratory-grown diamonds.

Lynn Serfaty, Managing Director of Natural Diamonds at De Beers Group, highlighted the emotional and cultural resonance of natural diamonds in China. She noted that Desert diamonds resonate with Chinese philosophies of resilience, transcendence, and harmony between humanity and nature. The Desert diamonds initiative aims to support China's focus on quality consumption and help consumers understand and appreciate the enduring value of natural diamonds.

De Beers Group's Show & Tell experience allowed visitors to embark on an immersive journey from earth to adornment. The exhibition combined visual, tactile, and emotional storytelling, transporting guests through a desert landscape. The showcase featured loose natural diamonds presented along a spectrum of warm, earthy hues, as well as jewellery collections from retail partners, including Chow Tai Fook's Desert Rose collection.

The exhibition also featured a dedicated science and technology zone, where guests could see De Beers Group's detection instruments in action. The Tracr area allowed guests to explore the digital identity of a registered natural diamond, tracking its origin and journey from mine to retail. The initiative aims to promote transparency and confidence in the natural diamond market.
