The Aliko Dangote Foundation has introduced a Student Share Grant Initiative to promote financial literacy, responsible investing, and long-term asset ownership among young Nigerians. This program aims to increase youth participation in Nigeria's capital market by providing eligible tertiary institution students with practical experience in the formal investment process. The initiative is open to students aged 18 and above enrolled in public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Under the initiative, eligible students who complete the verification process and apply for a minimum of 10 shares in the Initial Public Offering of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE will qualify for the Foundation to fund an additional application for 10 shares in the student's name at no extra cost. However, the Foundation's funding does not guarantee allotment of the additional shares. Both the student's application and the ADF-funded application are subject to the applicable IPO terms, allotment procedures, and outcome of the offering.
Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, emphasized that supporting young Nigerians should go beyond providing access to education. He stated that it is essential to equip them with knowledge and opportunities to participate in economic value creation. Dangote believes that understanding the importance of saving, investing responsibly, and long-term ownership can help young people develop an investment culture early in life.
According to Dangote, greater understanding of investment and ownership can help young Nigerians make better-informed financial decisions throughout their lives. He added that developing a mindset about investment and ownership early on can enable young people to participate more confidently in the formal economy. The Foundation's initiative aims to introduce more young people to the principles of investment and encourage them to begin developing an investment culture early.
Chief Executive Officer of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Mrs. Zouera Youssoufou, stated that the initiative combines financial education with practical investment experience. She emphasized that financial literacy is strengthened when people have an opportunity to put knowledge into practice. The initiative will give eligible students an opportunity to experience the formal investment process, from verification and application to understanding allotment and ownership.
Youssoufou added that the Foundation's objective goes beyond participation in a single transaction. The goal is to encourage students to develop a lifelong investment culture and participate responsibly and informedly in the capital market. The initiative is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the investment process and promote long-term ownership.
