Crocworld Conservation Centre, a familiar Scottburgh landmark on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast of South Africa, is entering an exciting new chapter as Crocworld Adventure and Conservation Centre. The centre has been part of the KZN South Coast since 1985, the year Henry the Nile crocodile joined the team. With over 40 years of experience, Crocworld continues to evolve with its community and visitors while maintaining its commitment to wildlife conservation and education.
The relaunch retains conservation at its core while embracing more adventure and eco-education activities for all ages. According to Susan Badat, manager of Crocworld Adventure and Conservation Centre, the vision is to position Crocworld as a leading family adventure and conservation park. This new chapter aims to provide a space for residents and visitors to connect with nature, enjoy quality time outdoors, and support ongoing conservation work.
Crocworld has developed a growing network of adventure trails, starting at the centre and connecting into the broader Renishaw Coastal Precinct and surrounding areas. The trail network offers over 100km of trails, developed and maintained through collaboration with local partners and sporting clubs. Routes range from 5km to 40km options, incorporating flowing sections, technical features, varied terrain, and coastal and countryside scenery.
A new biking shop at the centre, operated by Badger’s Cycling and Sports Centre, offers boutique bicycle sales, professional servicing, accessories, apparel, and expert advice. This hub for cyclists supports the continued expansion of the local trail network and creates opportunities for group rides, time trials, sporting events, and community activities.
Conservation remains a key focus at Crocworld, with the centre reintroducing its popular ‘edutaining’ conservation talks. These sessions bring local experts into the park to share their knowledge in an accessible and engaging manner. The talks aim to take conservation beyond traditional presentations, giving visitors a deeper understanding of South Africa’s wildlife and natural environments.
In addition to conservation talks, Crocworld has brought back its snake talks and demonstrations, providing visitors with a hands-on opportunity to learn about South Africa’s reptiles and dispel common myths. The centre also offers juvenile crocodile handling, allowing visitors to safely interact with these prehistoric reptiles. Furthermore, Jikaleza Outdoor Adventures, a zipline adventure, offers a treetop obstacle course and zipline-style activities.
The popular Fish Eagle Café at Crocworld provides a space to enjoy the natural scenery while dining or having a drink. The introduction of weekend buffet dining options and special events throughout the year gives people more access to this beautiful space.
